Copy Trading

5 min read

Copy trading mirrors another trader's fills automatically. When the trader you follow buys or sells on Polymarket, BOOPOLY places a matching order from your own wallet, sized, priced and filtered by the rules you set. You can run a copy with real funds, or in Sim mode with virtual capital.

Note

BOOPOLY is in Beta. Copy trading places real orders on a live market, and a trader's past results describe what they have done, not what they will do next. The controls below let you decide how much a copy may spend and when it stops buying.

#What it is

  • Mirror another trader automatically. Pick a trader by name, pseudonym or wallet address. Each of their fills that passes your filters triggers a mirror order from your account.
  • Real or Sim. Real trades your own funds. It runs while the site is open; turn on 24/7 copy trading and our server keeps copying with the page closed. Sim uses virtual capital against live prices, places no orders and runs only while your browser tab is open.
  • Copy or Counter. Copy follows the trader (they buy Yes → you buy Yes). Counter takes the other side of the same market (they buy Yes → you buy No). Counter works on two-outcome markets only; trades on other markets are skipped.

#When to use it

  • You want to follow a trader's activity without watching the market all day.
  • You want to see how a copy setup behaves before committing funds: run it in Sim.
  • You want to take the opposite side of a trader's positions: use Counter.

A good way to start is a small total budget, followed by a look at the first few mirrored orders to confirm the copy behaves as you expect.

#Setup flow

You configure a copy trade in the copy-trade wizard, a chat-style builder that asks one question at a time:

  1. Choose a trader. Search by name, or paste a full 0x… wallet address (a name search only finds the ~200 most active traders). Leave the search empty to browse Top traders (with weekly / monthly / all-time P&L and volume). Their P&L chart and View full profile are shown before you continue.
  2. Choose Real or Sim. Real uses your funds (24/7 once you turn on 24/7 copy trading). Sim runs in your browser with Virtual capital (default $100). Where real-money trading is not available, Sim is offered.
  3. Choose Copy or Counter. Follow the trader, or take the opposite side.
  4. Decide how much to buy. A percentage of their trade, A share of theirs, within limits (a % kept between a min and max USDC), Fixed amount, or Smallest possible (the smallest valid order).
  5. Choose the order type. Market: fill right away (Polymarket's taker fee + our 0.5% fee) or Limit: rest and wait (rests one tick better than their price as a maker order, with no fees; it fills only if the market comes to it).
  6. Decide how to sell. Same proportion (recommended), Fixed percentage, Fixed shares, or Don't auto-sell (you close positions yourself).
  7. Set your limits. Total budget, Per-trade cap, and Loss limit (stops buying), which stops new buys while the trader's sells are still copied. In Sim all three are optional. A real copy needs a total budget or a loss limit, and with A percentage of their trade it also needs a total budget or a per-trade cap.
  8. (Optional) Add filters. Choose Open advanced settings for: ignore small orders, max per market, market quality (24h volume / liquidity / days left before settlement), the acceptable price gap, a category filter, and lifetimes (limit-order cancel time, or a wait when the price ran past your gap; pausing the copy after a set time). These are set when you create the copy.
  9. Review the summary and start: Start copy trade, or Start simulated copy in Sim.

Every option and its default is covered in the settings map below.

#Real vs Sim at a glance

Real Sim
Uses your funds Yes No (virtual capital)
Runs when your tab is closed Yes, once 24/7 copy trading is on No (browser only)
Prices used Live book Live prices (simulated fills)
Active at once Up to 10 Up to 30 (in this browser)
Good for Following a trader with your own funds Trying a setup or a new trader
Tip

Trying copy trading for the first time, or a new trader? Start in Sim. It runs the same decision logic as Real (sizing, direction and every filter), so you see what Real would do, without funds or fees involved.

#Live copy (dynamic copy trading)

A normal copy trade follows one trader. Live copy (/live-feeds, Live copy in the top navigation) adds rules that copy everyone who matches your filters:

  • Who may trigger: your Follow list, or the Whole network (either Whales, anyone above your size floor, or Smart money, only wallets with positive P&L on Polymarket's leaderboard).
  • Filters: a minimum trigger trade size, categories, and an entry price band.
  • Size: an amount per entry, a Budget (max deployed), and Max open positions; optionally one entry per market, and no buying against what your other rules hold.
  • Exit: sell when the trader who opened the position sells, take-profit, stop-loss, and a max hold time. Anything not sold by these is held to settlement and redeemed at $1 or $0.

Create a rule with Copy list or Copy network from the matching feed column; your rules and their P&L are under My copies. Stop and sell all sells every open position (positions under 5 shares wait for settlement).

Note

Live copy currently runs in Sim only; real mode is not available yet. Rules and their simulated fills are stored in this browser (they don't carry over to other devices) and run while any tab of the site is open. Up to 10 rules can run at once.

#Before you enable a strategy

A short checklist before you press Start copy trade:

  • Try it in Sim first. A few days in Sim shows how a trader's activity translates into orders under your settings.
  • Set a total budget. It caps the most this copy can spend on buys, however active the trader is.
  • Add a loss limit if you want one. It stops new buys once the copy is down by your chosen amount, while the trader's sells keep being mirrored.
  • Review the summary. The last step shows every setting in plain words, so you can confirm what the copy will do before it starts.

You can pause or stop a copy at any time from its detail page. How the 24/7 server places orders for you is described in Security.
